The Kaahumanu Church was built in 1832 as a way of honoring Queen Ka'ahumanu, an instrumental force in the spread of Christianity in the Hawaiian Islands. When first built, the church was just a simple grass hut, and stayed that way until 1976, when it was converted into the stone building it is today. The church is located just west of Wells Park, near the center of the town.
