Exploring the enchanting ocean life of the Hawaiian Islands, the Maui Ocean Center employs award-winning aquarium designs to bring visitors into close rapport with the creatures on display. The Living Reef portrays different ecological climates that exist along the ocean's reefs while The Open Ocean features a clear 54-foot-long tunnel, from which sharks, stingrays and many fish species can be seen from underneath. Sea lions, whales and other critters fill the Marine Mammal Discovery Center while Turtle Lagoon exhibits rare green sea turtles, which the center raises and releases into the wild. Situated beside Maalaea Bay, the center is directly south across the island from Kahului, and offers a full restaurant and gift shop.
